Dr. Ayesha Qureshi, DC
From the time I was 5 years old, I had a strong drive to become a doctor and help people get well. In 1997, I started training in a traditional Okinawan form of karate, and it was during this time I realized that the body is designed to heal itself; it just needs a little help sometimes. Too often, I felt, the medical system became more about treatments and less about the person. This new perspective of healthcare left me empowered as I realized that my health was in my hands.
I attended Kenyon College in Gambier, OH where I majored in History with a concentration in Islamic History while completing my requirements for chiropractic school. After graduating from Kenyon, I attended Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward, California. While at Life West, I learned traditional methods of full spine adjusting as well as techniques to help people with soft tissue injuries – an interest due to an old shoulder injury sustained during my martial arts training.
Since graduating from LCCW in 2006, I’ve trained in Active Release Techniques, SFMA, RockTape, IASTM, Cupping techniques, and Original Strength.
With two decades of experience, I’ve seen many different people with different complaints and injuries. By combining that with ART – a certification I’ve held since 2010 – and all the other tools in my toolbox, I’m able to provide a comprehensive approach that addresses both joint and soft tissue dysfunction. Having participated in different activities myself and working on athletes from a broad range of activities – things like Ironman, Strongman, triathlons, CrossFit, tennis, running, you name it! – has helped inform the way I practice: with the understanding that every body is different, and everyone’s goals are different. A “one-size fits all” approach doesn’t work, and I aim to get people back on the court, in the gym, or going for a pain-free walk as fast as I can.
After returning to Metro Detroit in 2008, I trained in Koei-Kan Karate Do, and my husband and I rowed with the Ecorse Rowing Club. Both my husband and I also trained at a couple different CrossFit gyms through the years. Currently, I play USTA tennis, run, and mix in other workouts to stay active. We stay busy with our daughter and two young furry creatures in our lives – Chili (a long-coat German Shepherd who sometimes accompanies me to the office) and Queso (a monster of a cat).
To support my local community, I volunteered at HAVEN, an organization that supports survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Oakland County. I’ve also given back to the community by donating to local 5k races and supporting various charity and non-profit groups through fundraisers or monetary donations.
